So today we cover off two days of Advent 2010 looking at Luke 4&5. My head hurt too much yesterday to get to writing.
First off we see Jesus out in the wilderness. Here he is challenged by Satan to achieve the goals through ambition and self importance. For me the significance for Advent is that this clearly tells us that the coming of Christ is about a spiritual event.
What Christ Did in coming was initiate a spiritual battle like had never before been seen.
The next chapter sees so much going on! The boat, the healing of a paralysed man! The account in luke is gaining pace it is building in energy.
At Christmas we tell the stories of santa coming down a chimney to deliver gifts. In this chapter we see four mates carry their mate to see Jesus when they can't get in they cut a hole in the roof and lower him down to where Jesus is!
Was this the first great gift to come down the chimney? :-) Well not quite, but the gift we see is the gift of faith given by the men to Jesus.
May this advent be one where to you see it as spiritual, and enter into the battle with Christ. It is not just a baby in a feed trough, it is the start of a battle. Also as you celebrate this year make a gift of faith to Jesus because with Christ in charge your nets will fill and your prayers will be answered!
