And so today we come to the climax of the gospel account. Jesus trial and crucifixion, some times referred to as the passion narrative. It is the greatest event in the history of the world, it is truly a narrative of Jesus' passion.
In Jesus' trials he is accused of disturbing the peace. This has to be one of the greatest fabrications of all time. Jesus was peace, one of his titles is the prince of peace. Jesus could no more disturb peace than we could fly to the moon by flapping our arms.
If only the religious leaders and Pilot could have had the insight of the thief on the cross. Whilst his mate mocked Jesus and just hoped that he could get off the cross, he saw in Jesus the opportunity for peace! In those few moments when they still had the strength to speak, a man in agony, was able to find peace. Jesus was and is the prince of peace!
From his birth in a stable this had been his journey. It was a baby born in a stable, a baby born to be king not to rule them but to deliver his people from bondage and fear into peace.
May your life be lived under the peace that can only he found in Jesus. May in this advent you be able to kneel at the manger and see in Jesus what leaders and rulers could not but what a thief on a cross could the prince of peace!
