Today's reading brings us to the beginning of the final actions of Christ. The religious leaders were looking for a way to be rid of him. Judas agrees to help them and so the trap is set.
Jesus and the disciples celebrate Passover together and then head out to the mount of olives to pray. Here Judas with the religious leaders arrest Jesus with just a little resistance from a disciple with a sword. I wonder how the servant felt having had Jesus heal his ear, about now arresting him?
Well the modern Advent is not all that different. There are people trying to remove Jesus from the celebrations but it is people that keep it there.
I guess the challenge from today's reading is to be sure we use Christmas as a time to clearly communicate Christ's message. To be sure we avoid the feelings of Peter who denied even knowing him. Advent is a time where there are clear and open opportunities to simply share the message of Christ and keep Jesus in Christmas.
