Today's Advent reading brings us to Luke 19. In this chapter Jesus journey literally turns towards Jerusalem. His fame grows and his stature amongst the people is huge.
The beginning of the chapter sees Jesus going through Jericho. Whilst walking into the town the crowds pressed around him. Zacchaeus wanted to see him but couldn't as he was vertically challenged, and as a tax collector was hardly going to be let through the crowd. So he climbs a tree to get a better view. Jesus spots him and announces that he will dine with Zacchaeus! Zacchaeus then has a change in his heart prompting Jesus (in a voice of great excitement I am sure) to announce that salvation had come to that house.
So my thought today for Advent is this, if you don't know Christ climb a tree and get a better view! Go to a church, read a book the case for Christ by Lee Stroble would be a great place to start. Jesus is not hiding from you, rather he is looking out to see you, just as he knew where and who Zacchaeus was.
For those who do know christ my question is this: is your Christmas tree big enough to allow someone a better look at Jesus? If the do climb the perfectly decorated tree in your lounge to they look down on lives that display Jesus well?
This is the challenge of Advent, to find Jesus and to help others see him clearly.
May your tree be strong enough for many to climb and for the view to be clear and life changing!
