Well the Harmony One given to us by Logitech as a part of their Tester Review Program is now working like a dream. I have the T-Box working right now thanks to Logitech FaceBook for the tip! I have also set up the generic media player. This was not as easy as I imagined but works well now. I expected to be able to just pick a generic device and map the needed keys but this if it can be done was not obvious to me. So I picked a device and modified that. So it got me what I needed.
My kids are still getting used to it and still dive for what they know to get what they want. My wife is no showing much interest and her only comment when I got her to have one go was gee it is slow. Funny how we think it is slow when swapping between four remotes must take up time, but we are happy when we are doing something and not just holding a remote pointed at the media unit whilst it does its thing.
My parents in their 70s gave it a go but the devices were out of sync from the kids changing stuff so it did not work for them but the were no overawed by it.
Some continue to play with it. For me (a geek) it is awesome, we will see if the rest o the family agrees as time goes by!
