There has been a lot of talk about Australian Cricket and where it finds itself. Well I want to put a different perspective on it.
For so long cricket has been played on hard flat lifeless pitches. Australia has had the batsmen to take advantage of it and the bowlers to work on these strips. However now they are playing on pitches that have grass on them. Our batsmen just can't let the ball go, they don't know how to and when they do they pick the wrong ones. They are just compelled to push hard at every ball that comes their way. This means when they get a good one they just follow it!
The other thing that is interesting is that the bowlers are being blamed and getting dropped left right and centre, whilst the batsmen are failing and the same standards are not being applied.
So after a session and a half I think that the time has come to sweep a broad change! Ponting and Clarke need to go. Yes Ponting has been great but it is time. We then need to remove Hilditch from the selection panel and then set our sights to identify those with ability and aptitude and select them.
Now is the time to select and Australian team that will be the future. Leave Hussey for a season to add some experience.
My very uneducated side would be: Watson, Hughes, D. Hussey, M. Hussey, Ferguson, Smith, Haddin, Hauritz, Siddle, McKay, Hilfenhaus
Some big calls but I wonder if the changes would be a good shake up for the hole system. We need to have initiative in all areas of the site and setup.
Whilst doing a shake up, time to drop Greg, Chappell, Lawry, and Benaud from the nine cricket summer. It is reflective of the team on the field we just don't know how to move on to what is next. What we need is more commentators and not just past test players!
The final point is that England are doing everything right. They have not made a mistake all tour. They are strategically better, their skills are better and they are playing as a unit and team.
So they are just my views of the state of cricket in Australia.
