Stop Kidding Yourself

At the end of a long story about Jesus healing a blind man, and the religious gurus getting angry and trying to find an excuse to kill Jesus. And then, in the heat of the argument with the religious guys, the story finishes with this scorcher from Jesus:
“If you were really blind, you would be blameless, but since you claim to see everything so well, you’re accountable for every fault and failure. (John 9:41 MSG)There are two kinds of people in churches. Two kinds of people who claim to be following Jesus:
- People who claim to see. These people pretend like everything's OK, they've got it all figured out, they claim to be leaders and mentors and they claim to have it sorted out.
- People who are blind. These people know that their life doesn't match up to the standard. They know they're a mess. They carry a wound. They limp from the pain. But they are still dedicated to Jesus, they still lead people, they just don't claim to be any good.
Jesus said that the people who are blind...are blameless. But the people who claim to see are accountable for every single fault and failure that they try and cover up.
I hope I never claim to be able to see so well.
Thanks Geoff for this thought provoking post
