Organised Organisms

So Geoff blogged this...

But if I asked you to show me an organism that isn't organised...you'd struggle!  Think about our human bodies as organisms, they are highly organised and structured to work perfectly with each other.  Maybe church can be an organism, but still be organised.
Think again about our bodies, and it doesn't take much to realise that our brains pretty much run the show.  Our wbody parts work together and they need each other, but the brain functions to direct operations.  Maybe church can be an organism, but still have a leader.
What are the characteristics then about a church that is an organism, rather than an organisation?  Maybe it's just that an organism doesn't have council meetings...

Reflections of a Snook

But the issue is that in an organism the parts of the body can't think independently.  Sure the church should be organised, but by whom and for what reason?  Yes I can hear the answers chime, GOD is the one who is in control.  So who's version of God, which theological bent, who says the Senior Pastor is always right and always in touch with what God wants... the debate over organic verses organisational is a black hole, it sucks us in to a debate over structure!  What we need to do is make sure that we understand relational!  That our churches are relational first and always! The structure will come, we will find our level ground.  they when the organisation is functioning, the only issue is does it enhance relationship, with God, and each other or not.  if not then change it.  that is organic!

Just my initial thoughts on the topic....
