I read today the 1 Corinthians 12. It is the part where Paul talks about the church being a body.
...The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ...
As I read I thought about it, I wondered what part of the body am I? This is a good question to ask.
I also thought about why is it that the church is so dysfunctional? Why does this body of Christ get it wrong and self mutilate itself so often? One of the things that came to mind was Geoff's blog about organic vs organisation. I wonder if too often the leaders, especially the paid staff of churches get to thinking that they are the head? When maybe they are just part of the head, they form just part of the brain not the total brain, or maybe they are more mouths or, hands or some other part of the body.
What would it look like if churches started to make decisions collectively, not letting the body be governed by one single part...
We have got to get it right, we have got to get the church healthy and moving forward loving itself and no longer hurting itself!
