Scripture
2 Corinthians 5:11-15 Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade men. What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience. We are not trying to commend ourselves to you again, but are giving you an opportunity to take pride in us, so that you can answer those who take pride in what is seen rather than in what is in the heart. If we are out of our mind, it is for the sake of God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you. For Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
Observation
This section of second Corinthians is full of some very powerful truth. Paul continues to call the church in Corinth to pursue a life lived for Christ. That Christ died for all and that means he died for us, then we should live for him. The section that stands out to me as I read however the words are “What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience.†We cannot hide who we are to God, but the reality is that we can hide it to ourselves. One of the greatest challenges in life is to be honest to ourselves. We need to get a clear picture of who we really are and not deceive ourselves. To do this we need to listen to honest people, not people who want to tell us how good we are but people who are prepared to tell us the absolute truth. We then need to listen to this and see it in ourselves. Self awareness is I believe the greatest skill we need to have in life, it will see us develop and grow in every aspect of your life, where a poor understanding of ourselves will hinder us greatly.
Application
List out those in your life who will tell you the absolute truth about you.
If this list is short then seek out others who will!
