God’s Testimony about you

Scripture

2 Corinthians 1: 23-24

I call God as my witness that it was in order to spare you that I did not return to Corinth. Not that we lord it over your faith, but we work with you for your joy, because it is by faith you stand firm.

Observation

Paul rounds out the first chapter with the statement that God is his witness. What great strength we can take that God is our witness! To have one as trustworthy as God to stand on our side, to speak to our defence, there can be no greater witness. However it brings with it great responsibility! If we are to ask God to witness to our actions and motives then we had best make sure that we want the truth stated. God is all knowing, he knows the truth about why we did this or that he Knows not just what but why we live the way we do. Can you call God as your witness to support the motives for your actions?

Application

Ask yourself are you living in such a way that you would be happy to have God speaking on your behalf?

What is one area of your private life that you can start to change so that you would be happy for God to speak about to others? Take the time to sit and share this area with your mentor or spiritual director.

Prayer

Lord God creator of all things, I confess I do not always live as you would have me live, that I would be embarrassed if you were to give testimony of my life to others. Draw me closer to you, point out my failures and bring freedom and forgiveness as I seek to change.
