Get Active

Scripture Reading Philemon 1:1-7

I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ.

Observation

Today we are starting to have a look at another of Paul’s letters, Philemon. Philemon was written by Paul to obviously Philemon. He was a fellow worker with Paul and here in the opening passages Paul urges Philemon to be active in sharing his faith. I believe this charge is also there for us today. We cannot rely on others to reach those we know, and if you don’t know anyone who needs the gospel then we really do need to get active! Philemon had blessed the saints which is a good thing but Paul’s charge is to be active in sharing his faith.

Now what we must be sure of is that Paul is not calling for Philemon to become someone he is not, no Paul is calling Philemon to be himself and tell his story. This too is what we are being called to! We are not being called to be the one speaking to a thousand people, we are called to being open, honest and available to live our faith and speak when the time is right.

Application

Are you active in sharing your faith? Do you know people who do not know Christ? If not get active, join a club, rotary, football, cricket, get involved some place that you can be active in sharing your faith. (do it with a friend so you can support and encourage each other.) But to do nothing is to fail in the call God has for us.

Prayer

God of all wisdom, help me see the opportunities that you have for me to get involved in the lives of those who do not know you! Show me how to live in such a way as to display the gospel and use word if I need to.
