Scripture Reading 1:8-19
Perhaps the reason he was separated from you for a little while was that you might have him back for good— no longer as a slave, but better than a slave, as a dear brother.
Observation
This is one of the great passages of scripture. We all understand that in Christ we have a new life, this is awesome! Here in this passage Paul writes to Philemon about his old slave, Onesimus. Onesimus had left Philemon and ended up in prison with Paul, after what I imagine were several conversations Onesimus is converted and they realise they have a mutual friend, Philemon. So Paul writes to Philemon asking that he accept Onesimus back, not just as a slave but as a free man, a brother! What a transformation! Once he was bound to Philemon now he is one with him as a brother!
This story is our story, our lives change we move from being bound in sin to free in Christ, from out of relationship, to heirs of the father, joint heirs with Christ himself!
Application
What awesome change, recall your change in Christ, remember where you have come from, and praise God for this great victory!
Prayer
God all wonders we give you all the glory for in you we have found victory and grace. May we live as free men, as heirs of your kingdom, joint heirs with the son?
