Love, Love, Love
Scripture Reading 13:1-13
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
Observation
This section is one of the most famous of the passages from Corinthians; we have heard it read at many a wedding. It follows on from Paul’s messages about spiritual gifts, and out how they should function as the body of Christ. He caps it off with this passage.
If you have a gift from the spirit and not love it is nothing! What Paul is saying here, is that it is all about love. Love is why, we need to care for each other, love is why the body must use its gifts, love is why we should not eat meat if it causes our brother or sister to stumble, love is why we should keep ourselves from temptation and should strive to stay moral.
In the end only faith, hope, and love remain and the greatest of these is love. Every action of our lives should be made through the motivation on love. Love for God and love for others, first and always.
Application
What are your motivations in life: guilt, anger, jealousy? Make an effort to be motivated by love? What is one area that you can start to make changes in?
Prayer
God of love, may I have a love that comes from your heart, may my life be a life of love first and in all things.
