Joined in the Body

Scripture Reading 10:23-11:1

Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ? Because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf.

Observation

We celebrate communion each week with juice and bread. We take this time seriously because of the truth that Paul speaks about here. That when we take communion we are entering into participation with Christ! This is huge! It is not just about remembering what Christ did or even the decisions that we have made in the past, no we are entering into participation with Christ!

It is part of our worship that we take the bread and eat it together. We do it to reflect that we are one body, the church. For most of our lives we are living isolated and independent, but the church is a single living body, dysfunctional often, but one all the same.

Application

Is there a part of the body that you need to seek forgiveness from? How can you live your life more effectively as part of the body of Christ? What is one thing you can do to love the body more?

Prayer

Jesus, head and Lord of the church, I repent for the way I treat the body at times, I commit to living more as a part of the body, to enter into true participation within the body, loving and supporting all its members.
