Different Gifts

Scripture Reading 12:1-11

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.

Observation

Spiritual gifts are one of those topics that draw people’s passions out. There has been many a debate about the topic. Paul here in this section addresses the issue of Spiritual Gifts. What is so often missed in the discussion of or pursuit of spiritual gifts is that they are given by God for God. The gifts are all different, and there are different types of service that they are given for. Some are public, some are private, some are to spoken some are actions; all are for the common good of the body of Christ and the Kingdom of God. The other major point that Paul makes is in verse 11 that they are the work of the same spirit and “he gives them as he determines” we can want a gift that is considered more special but it is God who determines when and where his spirit is to be active.

Application

Ask God to clearly show you the gifts he has given.

Ask a close friend or mentor what spiritual gifts they see evident in your life?

Find an opportunity to serve the body of Christ using your gifts!

Prayer

God almighty, the giver of all, open my eyes to see the gifts that you have given, open my ears to hear you direction, open my heart to step out in faith and server your body, the church with the gifts you have given.
