Scripture Reading 11:2-16
In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman.
Observation
Wow what a passage of scripture! There is much in this section of the book of First Corinthians that can draw debate and argument. However, it is a passage of scripture written to a city in the grip of complete moral decline. Into this culture Paul urges that it is better to err on the side of conservative moral standards than it is to be lax and be open to accusation and temptation. This truth is true today, we are better to be more moral than less moral.
The verse however for me is the one highlighted at the top of the page. When you read this verse in line with the previous section we understand that value is not determined by gender, rather the body of Christ is to be treated with equal value.
In our current culture we must learn this biblical truth that men and women are of equal value and need to be respected equally by each other.
Application
Where in your life do you need to tighten your morality, to avoid accusation or temptation?
Are there women or men that you need to seek forgiveness from for having treated them without respect?
Prayer
Creator God, sustainer of all that is, I come to you today. May you help me to depend on and respect those I live and work with? May I exhibit the level of love and respect to them that you have shown to me?
