From my Nephew Geoff...
You don't hear much about what John the Baptist did before Jesus arrived on the scene. All we really remember is that he wore freaky clothes and baptised people, including Jesus.
But in Luke 3, it gives us a little more. Listen to what John served up to some Jewish people who had come to listen to him:
Produce fruit in keeping withrepentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. The axe is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.'
Ouch! John smashed them! They were thinking that they were sweet because they were Jews and God loved them. But John told them otherwise: God can turn rocks into Jews if he wants!
The real test of your faith is whether or not you serve God by serving other people. Hold up: if you believe in Jesus, he forgives all your sins, buys your way into heaven…no doubt about it. But if you want to show evidence of that faith in Jesus: don't just sit there, do something about it!
Care for People. Love People. Bring Peace. Bring Healing. Bring Compassion. Be Jesus in Someone's Life.
