Free phone comes with strings attached - Phones & PDAs - Gadgets - Technology

This is interesting... I think that it will be popular save teenager from paying.  However, is popular a good thing?  how will this generation of connected, always on teenager be impacted by never running out of credit?

The teenager's dream of a free mobile phone service is a step closer, but customers will have to trade their personal details to advertisers for the privilege.

With its sights set on the 16 to 24-year-old market, Blyk- the world's first advertising-funded mobile phone service - announced in Britain yesterday it had signed deals with advertisers including Coca-Cola, L'Oreal and Buena Vista, part of the Disney media empire.

  1. It definitely won't help teenagers (or anyone else) get a solid sense of fiscal responsibility. It's also another nail in the coffin for privacy - although at least there's something in exchange for handing over your personal details.
