Well as Advent descends on us again it is truly time to start to remember the things that Christmas is about. So here is a good place to start. I read this article on the age and it is a good thought that Christmas present buying can get way out of hand. I too subscribe to the view that the Mythical Santa should not get the credit for the hard work that goes into getting the money and buying the Christmas presents.
I never told the first child that Santa was real. The nice men in the red suits chortling in every mall were locals who dressed up to celebrate the season, and none of them lived at the North Pole. It didn't seem to spoil my son's enthusiasm for Big Pile of Presents Day one bit to know the booty came from friends and family.
Different story once he got to school.
"There is so a Santa," he insisted, dogged as any convert. "And he gives 'Santa presents' if you leave him a piece of cake."
