Andrew Bold posted a link to pizzatraysandbeercans where the author tells of the ABC's new CD of hymns that have been butchered into modern language so as to be inclusive and non offensive!
Recently, I ordered "Abide with Me" to distract me from
the gang wars in my community (LOL).
You can purchase the CD at your ABC bookshop.
The Choir of Trinity College (University of Melbourne) are gifted saints.
However, I am not sure about their friends at the ABC.
When I played the CD I noticed that some of the hymns sounded a little odd.
For example, certain words were missing.
Were the "bad" conventions of language axed by
the Thought Police?
The ABC tries to explain:
"In accordance with the practice in many modern hymnals
[define "many" please!], the words of several [actually 13 !!! ]
of the hymns on this disc have been altered to conform to
modern conventions of language use (e.g. 'you' instead of 'thee')
and punctuation, and [drum roll...] to avoid gender exclusive
language and imagery..."
Great work! "The ABC is now taking the "class" out
of "classics" in order to appease so-called
feminist Christians from empty Uniting
Church pews," I thought.
Why is the only question! Do Muslims or agnostics or feminists rush out to buy a cd of classic hymns? I have to say that if Craig over at his rant catches an ear full of "Be you my vision" he may just explode!
