Just because you can

It struck me recently what is one of the most important lessons that we can learn in life is that just because we can does not mean we should!

This epifany came to me while sitting at the lights waiting for a woman, who was dialing her mobile phone and then having a great chat, to move on.  So on the second set of lights she finally moved and it hit me that just because we can talk on the mobile phone in the car does not mean we should!  Just because the phone is mobile does not mean that we need to compulsoraly make calls while driving.  Just because we chose to make a call does not mean that we need to neglect driving correctly once we are on a call.  (I am not sure that driving with a phone held by shoulder and head can enable correct driving)

This goes further in life than the modern love of the mobile phone.  Life in general can be lived under this truth.  We were shopping the other day and my daughter fell in love with a bag that she wanted.  With tears falling she just wanted the bag.  But just because we could buy it did not mean that we should.  There were a number of factors one of which was did we need a bag?  Was there any use we had for it.  I wish I lived by this rule more often.  The ever feared question does my bottom look big in this? Cam be answered Yes but is often better more diplomaticaly answered.  Just because we can say yes does not mean we should.

There are a bunch of character issues too (Probably more significant).  We can use words but should we?  We could have an argument about an issue but should we?  What are the benefits?  What is the point? Will the world be better beacue I make an issue out of this? Will people be built up by these actions?

So I challenge you to think about your life what do you do that you can that you should not?
